HAWKS SIGN SEASON'S FIRST BASEBALL RECRUIT

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association baseball season is still several months from starting but the Humber Hawks are already prepping for it to begin.

The Hawks and assistant coach Matthew Ferreira are pleased to announce the signing of Aaron Arbic-Cohen of Christ the King Catholic School in Georgetown, Ontario. 

"We've had Aaron on our radar for a couple of years," said coach Ferreira.  "He is the type of premier athlete we look for when we recruit high school players. He brings a combination of athleticism and speed which should play well in the OCAA.   With a shortstop at the top of our recruit board as Sean Mattson graduates this year, we jumped at the opportunity to sign Aaron as we feel he is one of the  premier shortstops in the province.    We look forward to watching him develop in our program."

The five-foot-ten Arbic-Cohen is a shortstop and is currently playing for the Brampton Royals 18U team of the baseball Ontario Midget Elite League.    

"Humber meets my desire of receiving a top-notch education, as well as being able to play baseball at a very competitive level," said Arbic-Cohen when asked why he chose Humber College.  "I've only heard good things about Humber."

Arbic-Cohen, who has been playing for 14 years, has played multiple seasons above his age group and has continually found success.  Over the last three seasons, he has hit .415 or higher, finishing one season with a league-best .520.  The middle infielder has consistently been tops in the league in stolen bases as well.

Arbic-Cohen will be enrolled in the Police Foundations program with hopes of applying for the Pre-Service Fire Fighter Education and Training program upon graduation. 

Arbic-Cohen is no stranger to Humber baseball, as his lifelong friend Kenneth Hahnfield just completed his first season with the Hawks.  Hahnfield and Arbic-Cohen grew up playing together and competed for Christ the King Jaguars in high-school.

Success for Arbic-Cohen on the diamond is just as important as in the classroom.
