HAWKS TANEJA AND TOURAY EARN CCAA MEN’S DOUBLES BRONZE WITH THRILLING 2-1 WIN

TRURO, NS: The pair of Arpit Taneja and Ayubu Touray withstood a furious rally from a duo from George Brown (OCAA) to claim the 2019 CCAA National Bronze Medal in men's doubles on Saturday at Dalhousi A.C. in Nova Scotia.

This was the fourth time these teams have played over the last few weeks at the OCAA and CCAA championship events. Humber took OCAA gold, and then in another medal deciding game, snared the national bronze.

As with all the matches between these teams, it was truly a battle.

The Hawks pair of Taneja and Touray found themselves in a tight fight in the first set, but still held onto a thin 11-9 lead at the break. It was at this point that they started to soar and won comfortably by a set score of 21-15.

The second set was similar, except the tightness of the affair sat at the 14 point mark, with both teams tied. This time is was the Huskies that took over the set and won by five points, 21-16.

Why not go three, again?

And to the third set they went, and yet once again it was tight, with Humber leading 11-10 at the break. Humber created separation quickly from that point on, and at 18-13 late they took it the distance in a 21-15 victory.

Off on the sidelines and in the crowd, it was clear that the always evident Mike Kopinak "fist pump" came into play, signifying a Hawks win.

This is Taneja's second CCAA medal, as he took silver in mixed doubles last year, and Touray's first.
