HAWKS BADMINTON DUO OF TOURAY & TANEJA ROLL TO MEN’S DOUBLES GOLD

MISSISSAUGA, ON: The pairing of Ayubu Touray and Arpit Taneja was a golden one for the Humber Hawks badminton team on Saturday afternoon at the 2019 OCAA Badminton Championships, which are being held at the University of Toronto – Mississauga (UTM).

The two needed three sets in the final to defeat a very strong George Brown team. In fact, the Huskies team knocked off Touray and Taneja in round robin play.

In the final, it was Humber that struck first, dominating on their way to a 21-8 set win. But, as with badminton, you never put too much stock in a lopsided set win, as things change quickly. In the second, Humber fought from behind the whole way and actually took a 20-19 before losing 22-20. The third, and final set saw the Hawks in control throughout, but a late blip saw the Huskies just two points behind at 20-18. Humber quickly put all matters to rest, and were crowned champions.

This was the second OCAA title for Taneja, and the first for Touray.

Both teams will advance to the 2019 CCAA National Championships, which are being hosted by Dalhousie AC in Nova Scotia, in mid-March.
