CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS THURSDAY FOR No.1 HAWKS

NORTH YORK, Ont – Nine schools will be represented at the 2017 CCAA Badminton National Championship hosted by Seneca College from March 9 to 11 and No. 1 Humber will have representatives competing in four of the five disciplines.

Humber Badminton has been the most dominant program in country over the last eight years, proven by its 19 CCAA medals over that span.  The Hawks have won two or more medals in five straight seasons and will be looking to continue that streak after finishing with three last season.

Coached by Ray Wong, Karen Ng, and Jesse Assing, the Hawks have been the top ranked program all season long.  Humber is led by three-time All-Canadian Olivia Lei (China), who is 13-0 all-time in CCAA competition and looking to become a three-time women's singles national champion.

Partners Phuthita Nilyok (Thailand) and Chloe Rowe (Newcastle) ran the table at provincials and are now looking to win Humber's first women's doubles national championship in four years.

Ryan Chow (Mississauga) and Adam Dong (China) became the first duo to win back-to-back provincial titles in a decade and are now looking to do the same at nationals.  Last season the pair won Humber's first men's doubles national championship and can become the first duo to repeat on the national stage in over nine years.

After rallying from behind to win provincial silver, Cameron Lai (Mississauga) and Christina Duong (Kitchener) will be representing Humber in mixed doubles and will be looking to win the programs fifth consecutive medal in that discipline.

The three day tournament begins March 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Seneca College.  For match-by-match results, follow @HawksGameDay on twitter.
