OLIVIA LEI NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NORTH YORK, Ont -- The Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) announced Wednesday evening that Olivia Lei is the 2017 CCAA Badminton Female Player of the Year, an honour she is receiving for the third consecutive season.

Currently ranked the No. 2 women's singles player for Badminton Canada, Lei becomes the first Humber Hawk to be awarded this honour three consecutive years.

A third-year student from Guang Xi, Lei has constructed one of the most impressive badminton resumes in CCAA history.  Since beginning her career in 2014, Lei is a two-time singles national champion, three-time All-Canadian, three-time singles provincial champion, and a three-time OCAA Female Badminton Player of the Year recipient.

On Thursday Lei will begin defence of her national crown when the CCAA tournament begins.  Competing against the very best at the tournament, Lei owns a career 13-0 CCAA record with an average set score of 21-7.

The tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9.
