NOFUENTE'S RECORD SETTING NIGHT

January 11, 2017
ETOBICOKE, Ont -- Reigning CCAA and OCAA Player of the Year Ceejay Nofuente of the National Champion Humber Hawks women's basketball team shattered two OCAA scoring records on Wednesday night at home in a 92-62 win over the Redeemer Royals.

Her 55 point performance eclipsed the 54 point mark established by Seneca star Natasha Thombs, which was set in the 2008-09 season. She put a topper on the evening's festivities by obliterating the single game three-point mark, as she buried 13, four more than the mark shared by two players.

The 55 point performance seemed almost effortless. Her 19 point first half included five three pointers, and she accounted for almost 70% of the Hawks offensive output in the half. Although Ceejay was showing a glimpse of what was to come, the Royals fought valiantly and trailed by just a single point at the break.

Knowing she needed to take the lead to ensure the Hawks secured their 47th straight victory, she put the third quarter directly on her own shoulders. She scored 26 of the Hawks 33 points in that frame, with six from beyond the arc. A one point lead quickly turned into a 22 point advantage.

Although playing limited minutes in the fourth and final quarter, she had two more 3's and four free throws to hit the magic number of 55. Her last shot, of course, a three-pointer, came with just under five minutes to play.

To put things in perspective, Ceejay outscored the entire Redeemer team in the second half by a score of 36-30, playing only 15 minutes of the 20 minute half.

Upon leaving the game at this point, Nofuente's effort was recognized by the broadcast booth, the public address announcer, her coaches and teammates, and of course, the throng of fans that were lucky enough to experience this record breaking night in person.
