HUMBER SELECTED TO HOST TWO OCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- On Wednesday, May 11 the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) announced its 22 host site selections for the upcoming 2017-18 varsity season.    At the Annual General Meetings held in St. Catharines last week, Humber successfully won its bids to host the 2017 Women's Softball Championship and 2018 Women's Basketball Championship.

Women's softball is the first of two provincial titles organized by Humber College and will take place October 20-21, 2017 at the Brampton Fairgrounds.  The last time Humber hosted the tournament, the Hawks won the championship by defeating the St. Clair Saints in a best-of-three series.

On March 2, 2018, the top female basketball players in the province will head to the Humber Athletic Centre for the chance to claim the 51st OCAA title.  Humber – winners of 58 consecutive OCAA games – will attempt to win its fourth straight conference title, a feat only accomplished by the Algonquin Thunder.

The announcement comes just one year after Humber served as host to the 2016 Men's Baseball Championship.

"Hosting two championships in a single academic year is a fantastic opportunity to again showcase our student-athletes, Humber College and the city of Etobicoke on a provincial stage," said Ray Chateau, Humber College's director of athletics and recreation. "The OCAA's confidence in Humber College to host high-quality championship events is seen with its choice to return, and we appreciate that. We are very excited to welcome those top-caliber student-athletes, families, friends and fans from all over Ontario."

These announcements further cement Humber's status as a premier OCAA championship host.
